I was pretty shock when I saw the news that United were in for Owen. At first i just thought that it was another transfer rumor. I mean come on, Owen to United? Who would have thought that??? But everything just happened so quickly... He got a call from Sir Alex, had breakfast with him, discuss about the possibility of him signing with United, went for his medical the next day, and signed for them right after his medical (which he passed with flying colors). =S
I know many would think that this move by Sir Alex is somewhat of a gamble, but I believe that it is a really good gamble and that it will pay off. Well, don't just listen to me on that, here is some information about the man himself, Michael Owen.
About Michael Owen
Michael Owen was born on the 14th of December 1979 in Chester, England. He started of his career with Liverpool (youth squad) where he signed when he was 16 in 1996. He did very well there and signed a professional contract with the club just a few days after his 17th birthday (18th December 1996). At Liverpool, he went on to play 216 games and scored 118 goals for them. He was has been the top score for Liverpool ever since 1998.
His string of injuries also began at Liverpool with his most frustrating season being the 1999/2000 season. He would be on the sidelines for lengthy periods but still managed to score 12 goals and helping Liverpool qualify for the UEFA Cup. He has won the treble with Liverpool in 2001, winning the UEFA Cup, FA Cup, and Football League Cup.
In the mid of 2004, he moved on to Real Madrid for £8 million but was mostly used as a substitute. But despite being on the bench most of the time, he still managed to score 13 goals in 35 games for Real Madrid. He even scored the only goal in their Champions League victory over Dynamo Kiev.
The following season (2005/2006) he transfered back to the Premier League. This time it was with Newcastle United for £16 million. He signed a four year contract with them. But his time in Newcastle would be plagued by injuries. He broke his metatarsal bone in his foot (was out for half a year), damaged an anterior cruciate ligament (was out for nearly a year) and missed numerous pre-season trainings to various injuries. All and all, in his 4-year stint with Newcastle, he played 71 games and scored 26 goals for the club (Newcastle was relegated from the Premier League in the 2008/2009 season).
After being relegated from the Premier League, rumors and news started to spread about Owen's career being in doubt and that he would retire because of lack of interest from other Premier League clubs to sign him. Slowly but surely however, clubs such as Hull, Stoke and Aston Villa were linked to signing him. But on the 3rd of July 2009, Manchester United made a shock move and offered Owen a 2-year contract. Owen signed on (since he was a free agent) to become United's second transfer of the summer.
Michael Owen has also featured for England's senior squad 89 times and has scored 40 goals for them, making him the fourth in the list of all time goal scorers for the England team.
My conclusion. I believe Owen will do well during his time at Manchester United. Many would say his injury prone and can never hit his previous forms, but I strongly believe with the help and guidance from Sir Alex and other Manchester United players, he will go on to succeed. Well, only time will tell if I am right. =) Please do let me know what you guys think.

This season the going has not been so good for Berba. Berba has been usually an overrated player if you ask me. Additionally, I always believed that Dimitar Berbatov must have been shown the door instead of Carlos Tevez. Actions speaks more louder than words. Currently, there is certainly a lot of competetion in the strikers line up. Hernandez, Obertan, Macheda and Bebe can potentially fill up any vacancy. Berba wont be missed and infact we will become much better off with the final result. There are younger players who will be ready to give 110 % for Manchester and I have never felt Berbatov do that even when he's scored goals for us. If Dimitar Berbatov is smart which I dont believe he is, this is actually the perfect time for him to move on as he's not getting any younger and famous.
